The first piece starts as landscape, unfolds as map, the second empty, trunk to the left sky high above ground, verticals, an empty city feel without spelling out buildings.
This is great. I think you see the things I saw! I’m going to stick them all into a book together. I love them. Mini landscapes with so much more going on in them than my actual paintings!
They are finished works! Ha ha! Actually, I have some ideas, but don’t seem to have the courage to try it yet. Yes to drawing trip. Have been near a castle today and lots of lovely architecture. Would make a good sketch trip. I can get there by train too.
I must have misunderstood. I got the impression from your comments that you saw these as mini landscapes as in small preliminary works. They certainly hold their own as finished works. That’s how I saw them initially.

There’s a strong geological sense to this, a feel that the landscape sits above countless millennia layer down in rock.

Then in the last piece you invert this, and what looks like folded rock is transformed into sky by placing the geographical feature beneath.
